Court Square is pleased to present The Double Session, an exhibition of new paintings by Noa Charuvi, Nora Griffin, Rory Parks, and Hayal Pozanti. The exhibition will open on Sunday, February 26 with a reception from 5-8 p.m., and will remain on view through March 25.

For this exhibition, the gallery has been subdivided into two discrete sections, each featuring two artists: Charuvi and Pozanti in one space, and Griffin and Parks in the other. Though each adopts a distinctive outlook, the works of all four artists similarly point to the medium's long history while simultaneously implicating its potency as a contemporary idiom. Within this paradigm, the imposition of the division proposes an underlying theoretical architecture, part mirror and part sieve. Viewers are encouraged to approach each pairing with a differentiating eye and to seek out implicit structural and figural linkages not only within each grouping but also more expansively.

Noa Charuvi (b. 1979) was born in Jerusalem, Israel and received her MFA in 2009 from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has participated in numerous residencies and has exhibited widely in London, New York, and Tel Aviv. In 2011, her work was featured prominently in the Bronx Museum’s first AIM Biennial.

Nora Griffin (b.1982) was born in New York City and received her MFA in 2011 from Columbia University. From September to October (2011) she was an artist-in-residence at the Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk, Long Island. She has a Burmese cat named Monk who now resides with her parents.

Rory Parks (b.1982) was born in Greenfield, MA and received his MFA from Columbia University in 2011. He is invested in painting as a resource for analogical and pragmatic thinking grounded by the shifting possible efficacies of time/space "locatedness” and vice-versa. He has exhibited in Boston and New York.

Hayal Pozanti (b.1983) is a native of Istanbul and received her MFA from Yale University in 2011. Her practice encompasses painting, sculpture, collage and digital animation. She has exhibited internationally, including shows in New York, San Francisco, Istanbul and Berlin. Pozanti currently live and works in New York City.

Court Square is located in Long Island City at 21-44 45th Avenue, #2. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 12 pm - 5 pm, and by appointment. The Double Session is organized by Ceren Erdem, Jaime Schwartz, and Lisa Williams.
